Sister - still called this many years later even by her children, has visions about her children as well. She tells them the stories of her visions each night before they go to bed.
As her children grow up they are beset by the normal problems of life: Veronica is a nurse and she is completely and utterly unhappy with her life. She dislikes the life her daughter Catherine has chosen for herself and makes Catherine and herself both miserable because of this choice.
Reggie drinks too much, has affairs and thinks he is God's gift to everyone. One day he has an epiphany and moves to Orlando where he moves into an unused storage room in Cinderella's castle in Disney World. There he makes a character costume for himself out of scraps in the garbage bin and spends his day making people happy in Disneyworld.
Daniel actually has a pretty decent life. He is a cop in a small town and he loves his wife. His only problem is that the devil is literally chasing him. The devil came to his mother and told her that if Daniel didn't find faith by the time the devil visited Daniel 7 times then Daniel was the devils. So Daniel lives in fear of each visit and when he will finally find faith.
What Daniel, Veronica and Reggie all have in common is their love for their parents and their desire to plan a 50th anniversary party for them. In between planning the party, Veronica's, Reggie's and Daniel's lives as well as their parents are played out on the pages of this book.
This book was a lot more religious than I thought it was going to be. I remember I bought it because I thought it would be interesting to read a book about a guy that was being chased by the devil. But I guess I should have realized you can never have one without the other! I guess the good thing was that it wasn't your run of the mill religion - it was someone having visions from God - and how much better can religion get than that?
