Charlie is a cold-blooded killer whereas Eli has always gone along to protect Charlie and really doesn't like to kill. More and more he wants out of the business.
Their latest job takes them to California during the gold rush to find a man and a 'formula'. The Commodore hasn't said more than that - just kill the man and get the formula.
This book is about Eli and Charlie's relationship, how Eli decides that this really is his last job and what becomes of Charlie and Eli once they find the man and the formula.
This book came highly recommended - even though it was a western of sorts. I did enjoy the book as Eli and Charlie's relationship is complex as brothers as fellow murderers.
