A Bibliotaph is Someone Who Hoards Books
Am I a hoarder? Some might say so. I own over 900 books. I don't think I am though. I love my books and I am passionate about them. When I touch them, it is with a mixture of reverence and pride. I own books that are first editions - first editions that are signed and first editions that are signed and numbered. I own books that were only ever printed in a production run of several hundred. Not hundreds of thousands, I am talking a printing run of 500 or 750 books and I am lucky enough to own one of them. These type of books are hand bound with marble endpapers. Sometimes the book is even printed on hand-made paper. I marvel at the old-world beauty of these books.
Don't get me wrong. I own my fair share of books that aren't first editions. Books from Book of the Month Club, books that have been printed a dozen or more times and books where the cover is about to fall off. But I want them as much as I want my other books.
Why? Because the majority of them I have read and I've developed a relationship with the characters inside the books. I've walked the grounds and lived in the houses these people have lived in. I've held their hands when they were upset and cried with them at the death of a loved one. I have been happy for them when they attained their goals and when good things happened to them.
In short these people - these characters from inside these books - are my friends and my family. Regardless of the books physical state or its monetary worth, I love each and every one of them. This website and this blog is dedicated to my book friends and family. I hope you will enjoy my book reviews and that maybe you'll end up reading some of the books you find here.
