Prior to being a POW, Louie had also become famous in the US for almost breaking the 4-minute mile run and would have surely done it had he not gone off to war.
Also prior to being a POW he survived on a small boat with one other man for over 30 days on the ocean.
Zamperini's story is incredible; and truly it is remarkable because he was able to come back from the war and not be angry at the Japanese who had abused him in the internment camp.
I recommend this book because people need to know what our vets went through and they need to know what our vets sacrificed when they signed up to go to war. I also think people should read this book because of the amazing resilience of Louie Zamperini. He is a testament to how we should all behave when facing our worst fears.
