The one unfortunate part of Izzy's life is that she has gotten pregnant three times and has lost the babies all three times.
One day a boat drifts ashore with a crying new born baby and a dead man. Instead of alerting anyone that this has happened, Izzy convinces Tom to bury the dead man and to let them claim that this baby is theirs -- one that she would have born had she not just had a stillborn.
Izzy is delirious and loves the new born baby Lucy, like it is her own daughter. Tom loves Lucy too, but feels distraught over the lie they are living and about what Lucy's real mother must be going through. So much so that he sends Lucy's real mother messages telling her that her baby is alive and well cared for.
In some ways this book was predictable. In other ways, it wasn't. In the ways it wasn't predictable, I was glad that the author chose to go a different way. I wish the author would have chosen to be less predictable with the story's entire plot. Still, all in all, this book turned out very good in the end and I would definitely recommend it.
