I thought this dystopic novel was uniquely different from other ones. In this novel, the night the pandemic breaks loose, a revered actor dies of a heart attack on stage in Toronto.
As the world breaks down after his death, the book follows his ex-wife, his son and a friend as they make their way through the next 20 years. Periodically we go back in time and see how these people relate to the dead actor. I thought revolving the book around the dead actor was interesting, since he didn't even live to see the pandemic.
The characters and their stories in this novel were believable and relatable. In the end, it was a story about how people connect and make their way in life despite the adversities placed in front of them. You don't need a dystopia to tell that tale - but it definitely made the tale much more fun!
