This particular fictional story is about Claudette Blum and her father Albert. They were hidden in cabins up in the hills where the Nazis didn't go. They also ended up having to walk a long way to another country and the Italian military accompanied them to protect. In fact, Claudette falls in love with one of the militia and ends up marrying him.
All in all, I felt this story was very interesting and gave me new understanding on what happened during World War II. If you are interested in the holocaust (as I am), this is definitely a great book to read. There are a lot of characters in this book though and I had a hard time keeping them straight - so be prepared for this. There is a cast of characters at the beginning of the book, so that does help in keeping them straight.
